Will Trump cut Federal funding of "hate crime" hotlines?
Many states are receiving Federal grants to launch snitch lines
Background:
Over the last 2 years I have written extensively about two bills in Washington state that are policies to target “hate crimes.”
SB 5427, what I called the “tattletale hotline” when I first testified against it in February 2023, while I was still living in the communist state of Washington is bill that creates a “hate crimes hotline.” The original bill had a $2000 victim compensation award, but the bill as passed in 2024 removed that piece. You can read more about SB 5427 here: https://conservativeladiesofamerica.substack.com/p/video-washingtons-tattletale-hotline
HB 1333 would have formed a commission to identify speech and activities deemed as "domestic violent terrorism", essentially criminalizing free speech. This was probably the worst bill of the 2023 session. It didn’t pass in 2023 and we did not see it return in 2024, which was a bit surprising.
Until last Tuesday when I stumbled upon a “Domestic Extremism & Mass Violence” task force that had been funded with $247,000 to be overseen by the WA Attorney General’s office, essentially accomplishing most of what HB 1333 would have done.
My timing was stellar, considering the task force was to meet just 3 days later on Friday, November 22nd for this first meeting. I wrote a recap of the meeting and some of the characters on the task force in the Substack post below.
I started to wonder if any other states have a “hate crime hotline”. So I started to dig a bit.
California, unsurprisingly, is way ahead on this. They launched their hate crime hotline in March of 2020…just in time for the Covid lockdowns. They have the 2-1-1 line people can call if they believe they have been a victim of “hate” or “bias.”
Of course, the biggest problem with these kinds of “crimes” is that they are wide open for individual perception and interpretation. In fact, most of the definitions of “hate crimes” and “bias incidents” are incredibly vague…intentionally so.
Many states have “hate crime” laws already, but the hotlines seem to be a new (and unconstitutional) trend.
You might be thinking…”I’m so glad I don’t live in Washington or California! I don’t want my tax dollars funding this garbage!”
Not so fast. The Department of Justice is awarding grants to states that are creating these hotlines…with all of our tax dollars! In 2023 the Department of Justice awarded California over $1,000,000 to expand their hate crimes hotline. And Washington state was just awarded a grant in the amount of $1,125,000!
The United States Department of Justice has a strategic plan to address and improve reporting of hate crimes. You can find a wealth of information on the DOJ website: https://www.justice.gov/hatecrimes/spotlight/combating-hate-crimes
The big question is: Will the Trump Administration do anything to change this? These types of laws allow people to target their fellow citizens who have different beliefs and values. It allows people to be targeted and punished for saying a truth like: “there are only two sexes” or “men cannot be women.” It allows people to be punished for their political and religious beliefs. There is no end to where this can go and we are effectively setting up a snitch line to nark on our fellow citizens because we got our feelings hurt.
This is bad. This is anti American.

One more thing: DOGE in all likelihood will get the impound act reversed so the Feds can pull monies back at any time.
I’m expecting Trump to completely defund all states which push the trans agenda and the DEI agenda. With that in mind, our state government will be broke in a year or two. There’s taxation but it’s not even close to being enough to run our state’s bloated government in Olympia.
